Session 28: Business Agency Readiness in Marketing
November 15 @ 11am
It is not uncommon to hear in many businesses that the owner and core leadership team are directly involved with day-to-day marketing decisions and feel as though they are constantly getting 'sold' a marketing tool instead of managing a marketing strategy. The challenge is that their business can't justify a full-time marketing strategist on the payroll, but a strong marketing strategy with accountability, follow-through, and ROI measurement is essential to manage a staff person that combines marketing tasks with their other administrative or support role. This leads to a couple of core issues that are tough to solve:
- Marketing is a promise that a company's operations team must fulfill consistently to provide a strong experience to customers. Yet, outside marketing vendors often have little to no insight to business operations. Instead, marketing vendors request information from a point of contact generically, frustrating internal marketing teams and hampering progress on projects and deliverables.
- Growing businesses often rely on a variety of marketing vendors to provide services and rarely employ a dedicated marketing expert internally. Without a core internal team member trained to develop marketing strategy, the business can't hold the vendors accountable to that strategy. This results in the business directing marketing dollars inefficiently and without ROI accountability. Vendors scoping services do so on the basis of what is requested, but instead of a comprehensive review, the business ends up with a sales proposal. Without a central strategy, how can a business know what to request?
